September 24th Weekly Pineapple


MATH: This week was all about numerical expressions and PEMDAS! Students learned that there is an order of operations when solving any math problem. 

SCIENCE: No Science this week.

ELA: This week we  used a characters actions and text evidence to determine the theme of a story/passage. 

SOCIAL STUDIES: We learned about Reconstruction. This is the time after the Civil War where America tried to rebuild. Students also learned about the 13th, 14th and 15th amendments to the Constitution.

Math Facts:
Parents, I need your help. It is VERY IMPORTANT that your child know their multiplication facts from 1-10. This is an essential to being able to succeed in fifth grade math. I have attached a google form of math fluency games that can help your child. Access it by clicking here or going to my google classroom.

GRADED PAPERS
Graded papers came home with your child today. Please review, sign and return on Monday. Don't forget that you can always check your child's grades on Parent Portal. They are updated weekly! :)

September 17th Weekly Pineapple



MATH: We learned how to round decimals and compare numbers. Then, students were tested on Chapter 1 yesterday. All of their grades are in the gradebook.

SCIENCE: We learned about Terrestrial (land) and Aquatic (water) animals/ecosystems. A lot of fun shark facts this week. 

ELA: This week we learned about text evidence and how to cite text evidence when responding to a prompt.  We also are in the final stages of finalizing our personal narratives. 

SOCIAL STUDIES: No SS this week.

September 10 Weekly Pineapple

MATH: This week was all about decimal place value! We learned how to turn fractions into decimals and decimals into fractions. Students should be able to write decimal numbers in standard, expanded and word form.

SCIENCE: No Science This Week

ELA: This we began our Narrative Writing Unit.  Students were responsible for brainstorming "true stories" that they could use for their writing topics.

SOCIAL STUDIES: We learned about Reconstruction after the Civil War. We learned about the 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendments and tons of fun facts about Abraham Lincoln. 








We are having a hard time getting students to be responsible. They are not bringing in homework, binders or chromebooks to and from school and each class. Please remind them that they are responsible for ALL of their materials and bringing them to class each day. This is an expectation as we are trying to prepare students for middle school.

September 3rd Weeky Pineapple

MATH: Students learned all about comparing digits in place values. We also reviewed standard, expanded and standard form. All students took a quiz on Friday.

SCIENCE: We learned about Biotic and Abiotic factors in ecosystems. We had a Readworks on Ecosystems of a Forest and we took a quiz (today) on biotic/abiotic factors. 

ELA: This week we reviewed the process of how to select "Just Right Books" for independent reading.  Students learned why it's important to have that "Just Right Book" when we read.  We also reviewed why authors' of those books write the way they write.  Students took a quiz on Friday on how to pick "Just Right Books" and some author's purpose questions were on there as well.

SOCIAL STUDIES: No Social Studies this week 





We are having a hard time getting students to be responsible. They are not bringing in homework, binders or chromebooks to and from school and each class. Please remind them that they are responsible for ALL of their materials and bringing them to class each day. This is an expectation as we are trying to prepare students for middle school.
