October 29 Weekly Pineapple


MATH: When we weren't benchmarking, we learned all about how to multiply decimals with powers of ten and models.

SCIENCE: We learned all about the water cycle! We did a project showing precipitation and evaporation using our own houses! 

ELA: This week in ELA, we brought our characters from last week's stories into another adventure.  Students were responsible for writing a second story for their realistic fiction character.  Students also completed their Quarter One Benchmark Assessment.

SOCIAL STUDIES: No Social Studies this week!










Math Facts:
Our next four math units are counting on students knowing their multiplication tables. Please, please stress this to your child and encourage them to practice their multiplication facts from 1-12 at home.

October 21st Weekly Pineapple

 

 

MATH: While I was out, students practiced their multiplication facts and multiplying multi-digit numbers. They should be learning all of their facts as soon as possible. 

SCIENCE: No Science this week.

ELA: This week in ELA, we wrapped up making logical inferences using evidence from texts.  We also completed our first realistic fiction stories.  We are now in the process of writing our second story in our realistic fiction series.  

SOCIAL STUDIES: We learned about Big Businesses and what a monopoly really is. We also talked about the corporations around Killian Road and how they grow.

Our next four math units are counting on students knowing their multiplication tables. Please, please stress this to your child and encourage them to practice their multiplication facts from 1-12 at home.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE Remind your child to charge their computers EVERY NIGHT. We are having so many students bring dead computers into class and not having a charger with them.

October 15th Weekly Pineapple

 

MATH: This week was all about multiplying! Students learned how to multiply multi-digit numbers as well as use area models!

SCIENCE: We learned about and made a project for predator vs. prey. We also learned about adaptation in nature. 

ELA: This week in ELA, we studied how to "read between the lines" aka Inferencing. Students are scheduled to take their inference assessment on Tuesday. In writing this week, we began writing our realistic fiction stories.

SOCIAL STUDIES: No Social Studies this week.

October 8 Weekly Pineapple


MATH: Students learned all about adding and subtracting decimals this week! We even did a Menu Math activity where students spent money at a restaraunt of their choice! They used math to find their total and what they had left. Ask them where they choice to eat and what they spent.

SCIENCE: No science this week.

ELA: This week in ELA, we wrapped up our Theme unit. Students took an assessment using Mastery Connect and completed their in class theme project.

SOCIAL STUDIES: We learned about Primary and Secondary Sources throughout History. We also got into Westward Expansion and the Cattle Drives of the 1800's. Ask your student the many different uses of cows.

October 1st Weekly Pineapple


MATH: This week, we finished our unit on order of operations. Students tested on Thursday. We are moving into Adding and Subtracting decimals.

SCIENCE: Students spent this week learning all about food webs and food chains.

ELA: We continued our theme unit by working on our theme one pager project. 

SOCIAL STUDIES: No Social Studies this week.

Math Facts:
Parents, I need your help. It is VERY IMPORTANT that your child know their multiplication facts from 1-10. This is an essential to being able to succeed in fifth grade math.
